The decadence of the Peony!
15/02/2009
Peonies are one of the EBD team’s favourite flowers – so full, decadent and luscious – and so rare, as they are only available six weeks of the year!
Why Peonies? Regarded as a symbol of wealth, luck and happiness, Peonies are available in Australia in pinks, whites, magenta, and cerise grown mainly in Southern Victoria and Tasmania. They are among one of the most photographed florals seen in wedding magazines in recent years.
The Style of Peonies: A bouquet of these florals will not only make a statement, but the possibilities are endless in creating a bouquet that reflects your style, from bold magenta peonies in an oversized bouquet for a Bohemian style, through to soft pinks and creams for a more Vintage Romantic look.
Availability: Here in Australia, the Peony is only normally available from the last week in October to the first week in December. If you really want Peonies in your bouquet, then we recommend a late Spring/early Summer wedding.
Who to talk to: The gorgeous bouquets of peonies you see in this photo are from Mondo Floral Designs, and also include Lisianthus and Freesias. Terrianne, from Mondo offers her expert opinion on the appeal of the Peony.
"Peonies are the essence of opulence in wedding blooms, offering brides quintessential elegance in wedding bouquet designs. They have a soft and feathery texture, with a unique bloom structure that can be represented in the initial cut flower stage as a round formed ball, to a carefully coerced stage that consists of a mass of petals that form a voluptuous head. The peony gains size as the bloom opens, and delicately shows its true colour as the bloom progressively expands.
They are by far the most popular wedding flower I receive enquiries on, unfortunately mother nature largely governs the availability of these boutique style blooms, and only brides choosing the months of November and early December can be guaranteed the gorgeous Peony for their wedding floral designs," says Terrianne.
